In the first half of 1945, Chuck Yeager and John Christian were both flight instructors at Perrin Field, Texas. General Claire Lee Chennault, the unparalelled China TIGER (like as Rudyard Kipling wrote in his Mandalay poem: like thunder coming up outer China cross the bay!)

Courageous - adventureous - patriotic - so young.  With neither herald nor fanfare, but with a silent fervor in a moment of time, they galantly gave us their hearts and their lives.
